The Story

Justerini & Brooks is one of the world’s leading fine wine and spirits merchants, with a royal charter dating back to 1749. Despite its rich history and reputation for premium service, Justerini & Brooks was experiencing a slow decline in brand authority and sales due to increased competition.

Navigator was brought in to reestablish the brand’s reputation, increasing both sales and revenue generated through an innovative paid-advertising strategy.

The Strategy

We believe in a holistic approach to digital marketing, where every channel works in harmony. In our initial audit of the client’s account, we identified two key issues impacting long-term success:

  1. Paid advertising campaigns were cannibalising sales from keywords that were already ranking organically with little competition.
  2. Campaigns were overly focused on lower-funnel activities, with limited visibility beyond immediate ROI and revenue figures.

To address these issues, we separated paid and organic branded keywords, ensuring ads only targeted terms that weren’t ranking organically or heavily contested by competitors. Although this shift initially made brand campaigns appear less efficient, it allowed us to reallocate budget towards reaching new audiences.

Recognising the importance of long-term brand building over short-term gains, we focused on awareness and consideration campaigns. Our data and insights showed that increasing brand awareness was essential to driving conversions, giving Justerini & Brooks the confidence to commit to a strategy that would take time to mature but would ultimately deliver results.
